Villanova-bound Drew Smith anchors Bishop Ireton’s 4×400 meter relay to a 5th place finish at WCAC championships on May 17th at Good Counsel.

After a rough winter season that never wanted to end, Bishop Ireton’s track and field team finally got on the track and has been racing ever since.  The team closed the spring season Saturday at the 2015 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference’s Track and Field Championships at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Maryland.

The DeMatha Stags claimed the boys’ title, edging second place St Johns and for the 8th consecutive year, Elizabeth Seton raced away to a lopsided win on the girls’ side of the meet.

Thomas Ward recorded a top 1o finish for the Cardinal guys in the 3200 meter event. Ward covered the distance on a hot, sunny afternoon in a time of 10:40.65.  Joe Siedlarz earned a 6th place finish for Ireton in the discus with a toss of 104 feet, 9 inches.   The relay team of Sam Smith, Josh Ammon, Drew Smith and Perris Jones earned a 5th place in the 4×100 in a time of :45.65.

The girls again saw the distance runners shine. Freshman Laura Mueller ran a 12:57.60 in the 3200 to earn a 6th place finish while Isabelle Wilcox was 4th in the 1600 event with a time of 5:31.67 and 10th in the 800 meters in a time of 2:31.59.
