In spite of a solid performance from Quintin Gilchrest with 11 points, the Cardinals (2-6, 0-5) fell to O’Connell 72-40 in Arlington Tuesday.
Putting up a game-high 13 points during the second quarter, the Cardinals finished the first half well. Gilchrest blazed a trail for the Cardinals’s offense with 11 points, including six points during the third period.
Darius Hines made it into double digits, scoring 11 points for the Cardinals (5-for-10). Also contributing for the Cardinals were Jeremiah Brooks (6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal), Nick Schmelzer (5 points), Michael Everett (2 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal), Kyle Bethea (2 points) and Tom Dosunmu (2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal). Chase Hill was a big defensive contributor as well, racking up five rebounds.
The Cardinals finished the game with 24 rebounds (eight offensive/16 defensive) and five steals.
The Cardinals return to action Friday at St Albans, game time is 7pm. Contest will be at the National Cathedral School’s main gym. Saturday the squad travels to Stone Bridge High School for a 6:30pm tipoff.
