Panthers gain split of season series, 3-2 in baseball

Kyle Delaney did all he could to give the Bishop Ireton Cardinals a boost, but it wasn’t enough to get past PVI, as the Cardinals V lost 3-2 in seven innings at Frank Mann Field on Saturday.

Delaney was hot from the plate, going 2-3 and scored two runs. He singled in the first and sixth innings.

Yianni Tsiamis got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out eight, walked one and surrendered three hits.

Sean Workman took the loss for the Cardinals. He lasted five innings, walked four, struck out five, and allowed three runs.

The bottom of the first saw the home take an early lead, 1-0. Delaney got things going for the Cardinals with a single. A groundout by Sam Ratner then moved Delaney from first to second. Seth Scalsky singled, plating Delaney.

PVI never trailed after scoring one run in the fourth on A single by Clayton Baine. With a man on first, an errant pick off throw sent the Panther to third and a sacrifice fly drove home that third, and decisive, run of the game.

A one-run sixth inning helped bring the home team within one. A sacrifice fly by Matthew Bardak triggered the comeback. The Panthers got Robert Corillo, however, to end the ball game.
