The Bishop Ireton Junior Varsity Men’s lacrosse team played hard but dropped two games during the Alexandria City Tournament, Saturday, April 15th on Fannon Field.
During the Episcopal game, the defense again played well. The game was scoreless in the 1st quarter. Episcopal scored 3 goals in the 2nd period. A “too many men on the field” penalty negated freshman midfielder Tom Coleman’s goal. Sophomore goalie Liam McHugh, had another multiple save game. The Cardinal offense allowed one more goal in the 3rd period. The offense was held scoreless, resulting in a 4-0 loss.
In the second game versus T.C. Williams, sophomore long stick midfielder and backup goalie Alex Byrd stepped into goal. McHugh replaced varsity goalie Ryan Verducci at their contest, while Verducci was attending his sister’s wedding. TCW scored three 1st period goals before frosh middie Kris Fabi picked up a loose ball on the crease and scored the first BI goal of the day.
Froeshman midfielder Max Hanson dodged to score in the 2nd quarter. The defense held TCW scoreless in that period. The Titans added three goals in the 3rd period and two goals in the 4th. Sophomore midfielder Anthony Simuro and Frosh attackmen Andrew Simoes added solo goals in the 4th quarter for the final 9-4 score.
The Cardinals return to WCAC play this week with home games vs DeMatha on Tuesday and Good Counsel on Friday.
